T he FAT is a family company, which has been founded in the 50s by Serafica Antonino nicknamed Nino, he followed the footsteps of his father Andrea who cultivated his vineyards on the foothills of the Etna volcano and produced the wine that was appreciated for its organoleptic qualities and its genuineness.
In that era he founded the local agriculture agency which included the owners of the agricultural funds producing the products of the Land of Etna: wine, olive oil and, then, later he began to install his own plants, (oil mills and crusher destemmer machines) for their production.
At the end of 80s, Andrea Serafica jr, representing the third generation, leads the company's total management, which is enhanced with a new sector related to the earth moving business and stone crushing plant.
In the 1990s, following Ronchi's Decree for "cutting down dust in crushing plants", a well was excavated, which was useful in solving the dust problemand also for the diversification of the company's activities. At the end of the 1990s, the growing crisis in the construction industry led Andrea to make the decision to definitively close the crushing plant, exploit the well and focus on agricultural goods production and their transformation.
At the beginning of the new millennium, F.A.T. has concentrated its activities on the management of the well and the processing of grapes in its own crusher destemmer machines and olives in its olive oil mill, enhancing and costantly modernizing their molitor structure.
This is thanks to the presence of young representatives of this family and exactly with Giuseppe Borzì (Maria Giovanna Serafica’s son), and Antonino Serafica (Andrea’s jr son). F.A.T. They strengthened the exploitation of the well by extracting its waters; the processing of the grapes produced in their farms using the crusher-destemmer machines for the production of wine and also have developed the production of extra virgin olive oil in the olivemill they have built.
Following the development and enhancement of the agri-food sector, the new generation senses the need to place their own products (oil and wine) on the market.
So in 2005 Giuseppe and Nino created the company Prosidoc whose mission is wholesale and retail trade for their own products, whose brand is recognized with the trade mark "Antico Casale Minicucco".
These goods gain recognition from the consumers, so flourished the company Agricola Vitivinicola and Olivicola by Serafica Antonino, whose task is the management of vineyards and olive groves.
As for the vineyards, 9,60 hectares have been destined for the production of "Nerello Mascalese and Carricante", which produced DOC Monte Etna vines.
The olive groves have an area of about 9 hectares and the olive grove "Nocellara Etnea" (DOC Monte Etna) is cultivated. The area includes several almond plantations.
In the last five years, a team of agricultural technicians developed a plan with the local government of Nicolosi, town where is this firm, the staff of the Etna Park and the Department of Agricultural at the University in Catania, for cultivating the old grains that were produced in these volcanic soils in the past, like the Rye or "Germanic Wheat", imported by the Benedictine monks in 800 and then abandoned in the 1950s.
In the last decade, the company has taken into consideration the didactic-lab activities: it has entered into collaboration agreements with the schools, which send pupils to the farm, where to whom they are shown and explained the process of life of the plant and of fruit (both grapes and olives), to the transformation into food (wine and oil respectively), this sector is covered by Dr Maria Ausilia Borzì, a psychologist specializing in eco-psychology.
The company has always tried to diversify its business and spread up its products. The business group is managing micro-enterprises, to set their products and have a better answer to production, processing and marketing of products.
